Eye and Vision disorders / Pterygium (Surfer's Eye)

Pterygium(Surfer's eye) is a benign(non-cancerous) growth of the conjunctive tissue grows from the white part (from the nasal side) of the sclera.The growths do not affect vision unless they extend close to the pupil. It is more common in people who work outside with exposure to sunlight (UV rays) and wind.They are more common in men and people living closer to the equator

Risk factors:
The cause is unknown but it is more common in people with excess outdoor exposure to sunlight,wind, dust,sand and people who live near equator such as farmers,fishermen..

Symptoms
-Painless area of raised white tissue, with blood vessels on the inner or outer edge of the cornea
-Inflamed and cause burning, irritation, or a feeling like there's something foreign in the eye.

Treatment:
The growths do not affect vision unless they extend close to the pupil. They can be surgically removed if they extend into the visual field but usually they are just a cosmetic nuisance.Sunglasses and hats may protect from pterygium may prevent the condition from returning.

Hi all i just wanted to know the hearing loss in older people.My grand mother is 70 and she is suffering from this ,its get worsening day by day.What are the causes of hearing loss in older people?How it can be treated ?Is it curable?
