Varicose veins are painful, swollen, twisted, and sometimes require surgical intervention. They are most common in women and frequently brought on by pregnancy, however genetics and lifestyle factors are also relevant.
Veins pump blood back to the heart, which means that leg veins are tasked with pumping blood upward, against gravity. Veins have natural leaflet valves to keep the blood moving in the right direction; in varicose veins, however, problems with the leaflets allow some of the blood to flow backwards, resulting in discomfort.

Symptoms :
-heaviness, aching, and sometimes pain in the legs
-Visible, enlarged veins
-Mild swelling of ankles
-Brown discoloration of the skin at the ankles
-Itching and redness of skin
-In severe cases skin ulcers near the ankle may seen

Causes of varicose veins :
-Age:The veins lose elasticity and weakens the veins when you get older.It may cause the blood to flow backward and forms blood pool.these veions enlarge and becomes varicose.
-Heredity: It may pass from parent or ancestors
-Pregnancy:Pregnancy increases the volume of blood in your body, but decreases the flow of blood from your legs to your pelvis, to support fetus,but it may leads to varicose veins.
-Obesity,Menopause are other factors which cause varicose.

How to prevent varicose?
Let’s take a look at some of the lifestyle changes you can make to prevent varicose veins:

*Sit and stand with care: To promote better circulation, maintain good posture and avoid crossing your legs when seated. Don't sit or stand for a long time, so take frequent breaks to stretch your legs.

*Use compression hose: Compression hose and socks are available both over-the-counter and by a doctor’s prescription. They apply pressure to the lower legs to help your veins pump blood upward toward the heart.

*Maintain a healthy lifestyle: By keeping your weight down and activity level up  such as swimming,cycling,walking have been shown to decrease your risk of developing varicose veins.

*In severe cases surgery is performed to remove varicose veins.Vein stripping is surgery to remove varicose veins in the legs,those having pain and skin ulcers.

*Noninvasive treatments for varicose veins do not involve surgery. Examples are: Sclerotherapy, Laser ablation, Radiofrequency ablation

In our body there is a huge network of veins, which carry blood from one part of the body to the other part. When some injury happens to even a single vein, the blood flow gets affected. This can further lead to several diseases. Many times the veins get congested due to the blood clots and this can also result in various illnesses. Due to the injury the veins appear bluish and swollen. This condition is known as varicose veins. This is extremely painful condition but you can get some relief from the pain by trying the various home remedies for varicose veins.

 1. In order to keep the blood circulation well within your body, exercising is the only option. Walking, jogging, cycling and swimming are some of the best form of exercising.
 2. Follow healthy eating habits and stay away form junk food, oily food. Limit your intake of sugar and salt. Try to minimize eating ice creams, cheese, tobacco and peanuts.
 3. Your diet should consist of vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, whole grains, fish and Soya products. Onion, ginger and garlic are also effective for proper blood circulation in the body.
 4. Pineapple is also very effective in the treatment of varicose veins. It should be consumed once a day in case you get varicose veins often.
 5. Blackberries and cherries are also effective in preventing varicose veins from occurring.
 6. Eat fibrous food, as this will keep the bowels clean. This will prevent varicose veins from occurring.
 7. To keep the blood circulation proper avoid sitting or standing in one position for long time. Take break for five minutes in case your work wants you to sit in one position for too long. This will ensure that all the body parts get proper blood supply & there will no pressure on the veins.
 8. Don’t wear tight clothes. Your body should feel comfortable in what you are wearing.
 9. In case you have to stand for long time while working then balance your weight equally on both the legs. Don’t put extra pressure on one leg.

 12. Mix carrot juice and spinach juice and drink it. This will also give relief form varicose veins.
 13. Massage the swollen veins with rosemary oil, as this will give relief from the pain.
 14. Applying apple cider vinegar over the veins will also give relief from varicose veins.
