Tuberculosis(TB)

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a infectious bacterial disease mainly attacks the lungs, but it may spread to other organs. It is caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The infection may stay inactive for years. When the immune system of a patient with dormant TB is weakened,it become active and affects the lungs. It is spread usually from person to person by breathing infected air from a careless spitting, cough or sneeze or during close contact.It can be diagnosed by taking chest X-rays, scans, skin tests,sputum examination etc..

Risk factors : Close contact with an affected patient,certain disease such as diabetes,cancer and HIV, alcoholic and drug abuse..

Symptoms: Fever, Cough with mucus and blood, chills, night sweats, loss of appetite, weight loss, and fatigue, clubbing od fingers and toes also may occur in people with advanced TB.

Treatments: Inactive TB may be treated with an antibiotic ( isoniazid (INH). Active TB is treated, usually successfully, with INH in combination with rifampin (Rifadin)/ethambutol (Myambutol)/pyrazinamide, and streptomycin.
A Vaccine called BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) is available,which prevent this disease in childhood.

I was a TB patient from 5 years ago, and I know these symptoms exactly.
