Role of Homoeopathy in Salpingitis - Basil Wellness
« on: March 21, 2012, 12:06:10 PM »
Salpingitis is infection and inflammation of the fallopian tubes. The tubes connect with the uterus in the center and the other end opens near the ovaries. When the ovary releases an ovum every cycle, the ovum is carried by the fallopian tubes in which fertilization takes place and the fertilized ovum is carried into the uterus for implantation where the further development of the fetus takes place.

Therefore salpingitis is one of the most common causes of female infertility. If it is not promptly treated, the infection may permanently damage the fallopian tubes so that the ovum released from the ovary every menstrual cycle can’t meet up with the sperm.
It is also dubbed as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), but salpingitis is a more precise diagnosis as PID involves inflammation of other organs of the reproductive system including the uterus and ovaries.

What happens in Salpingitis?

Many bacteria are known to cause salpingitis. Any procedures carried out in the vagina, cervix or uterus can allow these infective organisms to proliferate and ascend upwards to the fallopian tubes. Sexual intercourse can facilitate the spread of disease from vagina to the fallopian tubes. Infection can spread via lymph vessels so infection from one fallopian tube generally leads to the other fallopian tube getting infected.

In Salpingitis, the fallopian tubes become red, swollen and secrete extra fluid as a result of the inflammation. Therefore the inner walls of the tubes often stick together or they can also stick to the nearby structures like intestines or to the adjacent ligaments. The fallopian tubes can sometimes fill and bloat up with pus. When the inflammation has progressed, it can even cause the tubes to rupture and the infection may thus spread to the abdominal cavity.

Causes and risk factors
Endometrial biopsy
Curettage
Hysteroscopy
Insertion of an intrauterine device
Abortion
Childbirth
Tuberculosis or other bacterial infections
Antibiotic treatment may alter the environment of the bacteria in the vagina or cervix
Ovulation
Menstruation
Sexually transmitted diseases.
Signs and Symptoms
Abdominal pain
Fever
Nausea and vomiting
Vaginal discharge has an unusual color or smell
Pain during ovulation (between 11th to 15th day of a 28 day menstrual cycle)
Pain during sexual intercourse
Pain during menses
Frequent Urination
Low back pain
Dysmenorrhoea
Complications

Ectopic pregnancy: When a pregnancy implants outside the uterine cavity, it is called ectopic pregnancy. This may occurs as a result of a block in the fallopian tube due to inflammation.
Infection of the adjacent structures like uterus, ovaries, etc.
Infertility
Infection transferred to the sex partner.
Role of Homeopathy

What is homeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a form of treatment based on the law of similars i.e. ‘like cures like’. Homoeopathy treats the person suffering from disease rather than the diseased organ. The genital system works in unison with the endocrine (hormonal) system which in turn is directly influenced by the psyche (mind) and the nervous system. That is why a disturbed functioning of the genital system reflects discord in the functioning of the whole system.

According to Homoeopathy, there are certain constitutional defects in the body or mind or both that give rise to various disease processes. Homoeopathy treats the illness from its roots and restores a healthy balance in the person.

How does homeopathy help?

According to homoeopathy, an infection does not occur only because of bacteria. The system which the organism affects is also equally at fault as it is the immunity of the system which has allowed the bacteria to not only take shelter but also cause inflammation of the part. Therefore Homoeopathic medicines in acute salpingitis increase the power of the immune system to overthrow the infection by increasing the strength of the cells of the immune system to fight against the disease. Thus the medicines instigate the production of natural antibiotics. In acute episodes, the entire picture of the disease is needed to prescribe an accurate remedy. The type and severity of pain, conditions that increase or decrease the pain, the character of discharge, its color, its odor, the intensity of fever, associated symptoms like changes in thirst, appetite, other symptoms accompanying the symptoms of salpingitis.

After the acute symptoms have subsided, the immune system which is still susceptible to infection needs to strengthen by administering a constitutional remedy. Many a times, salpingitis presents as a chronic picture and a constitutional remedy needed to put things back into place. A constitutional remedy is a deep acting remedy chosen after a complete and thorough study of the emotional and intellectual and behavioral aspects and also giving importance to other physical symptoms like cravings, aversions, perspiration, stool, urine, menstrual discharges, and reactions to temperature, sleep patterns and dreams.

Other benefits of Homeopathy

Homoeopathic medicines work not only to improve condition of the skin but also to improve overall immunity and builds resistance to various other diseases.

Homoeopathic medications are completely safe and effective.Homoeopathic medicines must be taken only after consultation from a homoeopathic practitioner.
