« on: January 20, 2013, 11:03:20 AM »
Recently i happend to watch a welding work process directly. And i heard that watching welding work directly may cause corneal damage later??
Is it true? What will happen if we watch it directly, at close range for a significant time?

Nothing will happen if you watch at a distance. if we watch it directly, at close range for a significant time, then these may cause.
- corneal burn
- cataract
- a growth on the eye called pterygium
- retinal burn
- macular hole
- macular degeneration
Most of these conditions are permanent and do not appear immediately. The damage presents itself after 20-25 years with severe vision loss. At that time, the patient will not have any memory of the original injury that happened in youth.
So, people who work with welding are advised to wear safety glasses.
